Actual Trip:
2-day, 1-night, 13-mile, out-and-back from Lake Sabrina to Emerald Lakes with a day hike to Midnight Lake.
Excuse:
Mosquitos. I had to either stay in the tent, or keep moving to avoid them. I had the energy, and I missed my babies, so I decided to keep moving.
Location:
Inyo Nation Forest
John Muir Wilderness Area

The first two picutures are taken from Turtle Creek Camp near Lone Pine in the foothills below Mt Whitney. I drove up Thursday night so that I could be at the ranger station bright and early Friday morning to get a walk-in permit for the weekend.

The hike starts out along Lake Sabrina - a large lake popular with boaters and fishermen. It was extremely hot despite being at 10000 feet. After making it to Blue Lake, I felt pretty good and decided to continue on to Emerald Lakes. However, I quickly ran out of steam. When I finally found a camp spot, I quickly setup the tent to get away from the mosquitos and take a nap.

The next day, instead of moving camp, I decided to just take essentials (snacks, water, map, compass) and hike to Midnight Lake and back. This was a wise move. The trail had many water crossings that would have been difficult with a pack. And Sadie would often need "encouragement" to cross. She did start to float down stream at one point - but it wasn't too deep and I just had to step in to grab her. My camera batteries died so I don't have any pictures. But this hike is worth it. It passes a large waterfall and ends at beautiful Midnight Lake surrounded on three sides by steep Sierra mountains.
